Recycling

Effective March 31, 2006, Sunrise residents will benefit from improved garbage and recycling collection service - including monthly bulk trash pick-up. Please read the highlights of the new service, as well as review the information below regarding current sanitation policies and schedules.


The City of Sunrise provides residential recycling pick-up once each week. Please review the information on this page regarding:

Collection Guidelines
Bullet Items accepted for pick-up are newspapers with inserts; corrugated cardboard; phone books (March
   through May only) metal cans; brown, green or uncolored glass containers; plastic containers of any
   color, marked 1, 2 or 3; and milk and juice cartons.

Bullet Unacceptable materials include blue glass; plastic bags or wrap; light bulbs; aerosol cans; junk mail;
   flower pots and garden plastics; aluminum foil or pie pans; foam containers; and magazines.

Bullet All corrugated cardboard must be broken down, folded or cut into the same size as newspapers, or
   included with newspapers.

Bullet Metal, glass and plastic materials must be rinsed out. Plastic bottles must be flattened and their lids
   removed.

Bullet Recyclables - with the exception of newspaper and cardboard - may be mixed in the bins provided.
   Newspaper and cardboard must be placed in a brown paper bag, or tied and placed in a recycling bin.
   Plastic packaging material must first be removed from newspaper.

Bullet Wet newspaper and cardboard will not be collected: On rainy days, please protect these items with a
   garbage can lid or other cover.

Bullet All recyclables should be placed curbside by 7:00 a.m. on the scheduled pick-up day, but no earlier
   than 7:00 p.m. the previous evening. Bins may be placed outside even if they are half full.

Holiday Service
The City provides residential recycling collection service on every holiday except Christmas day.


Recycling Bins
If your home is not equipped with residential recycling bins, you may call (954) 746-3232 to request them. Please be sure to provide your name, address and phone number. Bins are normally delivered to a resident's home one to two weeks after their request has been reviewed. There is no charge for the bins.
