General Information The Mayor and four City Commissioners are elected to four-year, staggered terms on a non-partisan basis. Sunrise holds municipal elections every two years and the Mayor and City Commission are elected at large by groups: Groups A, B, C, D, and the Mayor. In January 2008, City of Sunrise voters amended the City Charter to allow for municipal elections to be held in November of even years beginning with the November 2010 election cycle.
The Sunrise City Clerk is the local supervisor of elections. Candidates for municipal office must file the appropriate forms with the City Clerk prior to opening a campaign account and to qualify for office. Elections are conducted in accordance with the provisions of Title IX, Florida Statutes, Electors and Elections (Chapters 97-106). Candidates: November 2, 2010 The following chart lists individuals that have filed candidate paperwork with the City Clerk. While they have announced their intention to run, they will not be official candidates until they qualify for office. Candidate qualifying for the November 2, 2010 election of Commission Groups "C" and "D" opens at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, September 1, 2010 and closes at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, September 8, 2010. Candidates must qualify in the Office of the City Clerk on the 4th floor of Sunrise City Hall, 10770 W. Oakland Park Blvd., Sunrise, Florida.
