Safety

The health and safety of utility customers is a City of Sunrise priority. With that in mind, Sunrise follows strict safety procedures - and encourages residents' compliance with regulations designed to protect the City water supply. Please take a moment to review the following safety information:

Utility Notification System
Thanks to its high-speed, automated notification system, The Communicator, the City of Sunrise can contact customers by telephone to deliver important information in the event of a utility disturbance. For example, loss of water pressure in the service lines due to a water line break, mechanical failure, or a power outage could increase the possible risk of contaminants in the water - and prompt the Utilities Department to issue a precautionary boil water order.

With The Communicator, Sunrise can alert customers to potential hazards in the quickest manner possible. Relying on multiple phone lines, the system can make up to 60,000 calls per hour.

The Communicator utilizes a geographic information system (GIS) which enables it to target specific, affected neighborhoods. By using The Communicator, the City can save valuable time and resources - and deliver accurate, consistent information to its intended audience over the phone.

If you have an unlisted phone number or a new number that was issued in the past three months, you may not be included in The Communicator's master call list. To add your contact information to the list, please complete and mail the City's Utility Notification System registration form.pdf Link

Sunshine State One-Call of Florida
If you're planning to dig, the odds that you'll move more than just dirt are very high. Gas and water pipes are being joined by growing networks of telephone cables, cable TV leads, power lines and more. Buried utilities are located in virtually all road right of ways, along lot lines - and in open areas you might not suspect.

To avoid disturbing underground utilities (and being financially responsible for any repair costs), you must - under State law - contact Sunshine State One-Call of Florida at 1-800-432-4770 before digging. Upon calling with your excavation location, all affected utilities will be contacted, and will in turn contact you within 48 hours to inform you of any underground utility location in your excavation area.

Here's how Sunshine State One-Call works:
Bullet Call 1-800-432-4770 48 hours before digging.
Bullet Receive a ticket number as your proof of compliance when all utilities have been marked and/or
   "cleared."
Bullet Start digging within five days of your location being marked and/or cleared, and finish within 20 days.
