Leisure Services Master Plan Presentations
The City of Sunrise and its Leisure Services Department face the challenge of updating aging facilities while providing new facilities to meet residents’ changing leisure and recreational needs. In response, in November 2014, the City will ask Sunrise voters to consider approving the issuance of up to $65 million in general obligation bonds. The proposed Leisure Services general obligation bonds would fund the purchase and assembly of land for recreational uses, as well as the development and improvement of new and existing recreational facilities, parks, and open spaces. The documents below – presented and discussed at Sunrise City Commission meetings – more fully describe the types of improvements planned, and the collaborative process used to define them.
Leisure Services Master Plan
The City of Sunrise is transitioning from a suburban “edge city” of Broward County, to a vibrant urban community enjoyed by a variety of residents, visitors and businesses. To maintain Sunrise’s high quality of life, the City has developed a Leisure Services Master Plan to guide investment in its parks and recreation system. This Leisure Services Master Plan, which builds on the 2010 Needs Assessment and Service Delivery Study (below), provides a long-range vision and implementation/action plan for the next 10-20 years.
In 2009, the City hired an outside consultant to perform a Leisure Services Department Needs Assessment and Service Delivery Study. The purpose of this study was to enhance the level of services provided to the public by the City of Sunrise. The consultant's findings are contained in the documents below:
