ACCESSIBILITY IN SUNRISE, FLORIDA
The City of Sunrise is committed to ensuring access to
information, resources, and facilities to all citizens and visitors inclusive
of those with one or more unique needs from the full spectrum of recognized
disabilities. The City does not discriminate in its programs or services on
the basis of religion, age, race, color, national origin, gender, marital or
parental status, or disability. It is our policy to strictly comply with all
applicable laws including, but not limited to, Title VI of the Civil Rights Act
of 1964, Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, Section 504 of the
Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Civil Rights Restoration Act of 1987, and the
Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990.
Specific examples of our dedication to accessibility
include:
- the review of construction projects to maximize access to
those with physical disabilities
- the availability (by request) of auxiliary aids or assistive
hearing devices at public meetings
- the application of Florida Relay TTY/VCO services
In order to further our commitment to non-discrimination, the
City is also actively working on improving the accessibility and usability of
our website in compliance with the latest commonly
recognized standards including the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C)
guidelines, ADA
accessibility standards, and the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines
(WCAG) 2.1 Level AA. These guidelines suggest best practices for overall
user-friendliness and maximal accessibility to assistive technology users—such
as screen readers for visual or hearing impairments.

Current employees and
applicants seeking employment can request a reasonable accommodation and are

Sunrise also offers mini-bus services equipped with handicapped
lifts and wheelchair stations on dedicated routes throughout the City including
stops at select shopping centers, libraries, the Sunrise Senior Center, and
Sawgrass Mills mall. Medical transportation is available to eligible
residents.
