The City is in the process of developing an East Sunrise Improvements Master Plan
. This important project focuses on our original neighborhoods: the area from University Drive east to the eastern City limits (including both sides of University Drive), and from Oakland Park Boulevard south to Sunrise Boulevard.
The Master Plan document will show east Sunrise as it is, recommend how it should exist in the future, and suggest specific strategies about how to achieve that future. It will help create a more vibrant, healthy and sustainable community and improve citizens’ quality of life by identifying:
- appropriate locations for commercial, residential, and mixed-use development;
- opportunities to extend and/or enhance open space, recreational areas, and civic facilities;
- strategies for increasing economic development, private investment, and improving neighborhood aesthetics;
- opportunities to improve connectivity between pedestrians, bicycles, buses, and cars; and
- environmental, historic, and cultural resources that need conservation.
The Sunrise City Commission and City staff are committed to involving residents, business owners, civic leaders, and other stakeholders in the creation of the Master Plan. Share your feedback at our next Public Input sessions.
PUBLIC SAFETY MEETING
Monday, July 10, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Participants will be asked to share positive stories about existing programs and efforts, discuss and map any safety concerns, and identify potential new efforts related to the physical environment, programs for youth and others, and code enforcement. The City’s Master Plan consultants will share their observations and some information about innovative approaches.
ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT MEETINGS

For Businesses - 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
For Residents - 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
During each targeted session, participants will be asked to share positive stories about business attraction, growth and retention; employment opportunities and training programs; City incentives, regulations, and programs; and other wealth-building initiatives. They will also discuss potential new efforts for these categories, including desired retail and service businesses for the area. The City’s Master Plan consultants will share their observations and some information about innovative approaches.
