The City of Sunrise earned a Complete Streets Community Award
at the recent 2019 Safe Streets Summit, South Florida’s annual conference in support of the Complete Streets initiative to build safer and healthier streets for all users. Sunrise was recognized for an outstanding job engaging the community in 2018 while planning for two new bike lanes on NW 44th Street and Sunset Strip. Our City was also honored as one of only two Broward municipalities to receive a nomination for the People’s Choice for Best Project Award
, which recognized Sunrise’s new bike lane on Sunset Strip.
“We’re extremely honored to have opened new bike lanes that have not only been enjoyed locally, but have attracted attention regionally and nationally for their fulfillment of transit best practices,” says Sunrise Mayor Michael J. Ryan
. “These innovative improvements have helped transform the neighborhoods in the corridor, to connect parks, neighborhoods, and businesses and to improve safety for riders and vehicles. The City of Sunrise is proud to be acknowledged by the Safe Streets Summit for these projects.”
Sunrise also recently received a national designation as a Bicycle Friendly Community
by the League of American Bicyclists in December 2018.
