Q: Do I have to register my security alarm with the Sunrise Police Department?
A:
No. The City of Sunrise does not require alarm registration.
Q: Where can I get employment fingerprints taken?
A:
Fingerprinting is available only to City of Sunrise residents with proof of residency, and is provided free of charge. To have your fingerprints taken, please go to the Public Safety Building at 10440 West Oakland Park Boulevard between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Q: Where and how in the City can I develop a particular use (e.g., residential)?
A:
Find a vacant parcel of land and determine its zoning designation by checking the Zoning Map. If approved for that particular use, confirm that it has been platted for that particular use (density, unit type, etc.) in the public records of Broward County. Once units are confirmed vested or available, follow the City's Site Plan Application submittal procedure as explained in the Site Plan application.
Q: What is the zoning on a subject property and what may be built on it?
A:
To determine the answer, first identify the location of the subject property by reviewing a survey, and then locate the property on a City Zoning Map.  Once the zoning designation is determined, refer to Article V (District Regulations) of the Land Development Code for permitted uses.
Q: How are plant connection fees calculated?
A:
Pursuant to Chapter 15 of the City of Sunrise Code, plant connection fees are calculated by using standard water consumption rates developed by the Broward County Health Department. The consumption rates are based upon the type of use that will be consuming the water (i.e. retail, restaurant, office...). Historical consumption rates can be provided, to be used in lieu of the standard consumption rates. Refer to our Historical Consumption Information for submittal requirements.
Q: How can I find out if there is a gas line in my yard?
A:

If you are planing to dig or install a patio, pool, fence, or shed you must call two business days in advance of any work for all underground utilities to be located. This is a free service. Simply call 8-1-1 to CALL SUNSHINE. Each of the local utilities will send someone to your location within 2 business days to mark out the location of their respective underground utilities. There is no charge for this service.

Q: Do you sell propane?
A:
No. As of December 1, 2010 Sunrise Gas no longer refills propane cylinders.
Q: What does it cost to have natural gas service brought to my location?
A:
Sunrise Gas System's gas mains serve most of the City of Sunrise, as well as parts of Lauderhill, Tamarac and Weston. Whether or not natural gas service can be installed without cost depends on the proximity of an existing gas main. Contact the Gas Administration Office for more information.
Q: Do you sell gas water heaters?
A:
No, Sunrise Gas does not sell water heaters. Sunrise Gas does offer rebates on gas water heaters. Click on  Gas Rebates on the navigation panel on the left.
Q: Do you install gas piping?
A:
Sunrise Gas does not install gas piping. You should contact a qualified contractor for gas piping installations.
Q: Do you install gas appliances?
A:
Yes, Sunrise Gas connects residential gas appliances, including cooking appliances, and clothes dryers to existing gas lines. Contact the Public Service Department to schedule a service appointment.
Q: Do you repair gas appliances?
A:
Yes, Sunrise Gas makes gas related repairs to appliances. We do not perform cosmetic repairs or non-gas related mechanical repairs. Contact the Public Service Department to schedule a service appointment.

Q: How can I find out if natural gas is available to my home or business?
A:
Contact the Sunrise Gas Administration Office
Q: Who do I call about my gas bill?
A:
All billing questions should be addressed to the Public Service Department
Q: What should I do if I think I smell gas?
A:

If the odor is strong, leave your home or the building immediately and call 9-1-1 from a neighbor’s house or a cell phone after you are well away from the building. A faint odor of gas may mean small leak or a pilot light is out. Click on the Natural Gas Safety navigation link for more information.

Q: Is natural gas cheaper to use than electric?
A:

It would be nice to be able to say YES absolutely, but there are just too many variables to make such a statement. A typical residential family that uses natural gas for water heating, cooking and the clothes dryer should save annually over the cost of using electricity for the same appliances. However, savings will vary based on the amount of energy you currently use for these uses and the current cost of fuels charged by the electric and gas utility. For most households, using natural gas is no more expensive and provides many additional quality of life benefits.

Q: How can I arrange to have a fire truck come to do a demonstration at an event or set up a visit to the fire station?
A:
Fire truck demonstrations and tours can be arranged through our Administrative Division by completing the appearance request form on the Citizen Service Request page under Fire-Rescue.  Please provide detailed information on the date, time, location of the event and number of people attending the event.
Q: When is my utility payment due?
A:
The City of Sunrise issues utility bills monthly to every utility customer. Payment is due within 21 days of bill issuance.
Q: What should I do if my service is interrupted?
A:
Please contact our customer service staff at (954) 746-3232 to determine the reason for the service interruption. It is possible that water or gas service could be temporarily interrupted while the City makes repairs to the system. If the reason for the interruption is non-payment, City staff will explain what you need to do to restore service; generally, you will be required to pay the past due balance, plus service restoration charges, in cash or money order.

Q: My utility bill includes a charge for "wastewater." What does this mean?
A:
"Wastewater" is simply the term that the City uses for sanitary sewer service. It refers to water that has been used and is being returned to the City for treatment.
