"Any person and/or company who maintains a permanent business location or branch office within the City of Sunrise for the privilege of engaging in or managing any business, profession or occupation is required to obtain a business tax receipt." Article II, Section 7-27(1)(2), City of Sunrise Code of Ordinances
The Business Tax Receipt (formerly known as Occupational License) unit is part of the Sunrise Police Department Code Enforcement unit. The Business Tax Receipt office is open weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and may be reached at (954) 572-2352.
Currently, there are more than 4,300 active business tax receipts in the City of Sunrise. Business tax receipts are renewed on an annual basis for all businesses located in the City, including authorized home-based businesses. Business owners planning to operate in the city must apply for a business tax receipt prior to conducting business.
To avoid late penalties, business tax receipts must be renewed by September 30th of each year. A delinquency penalty of 10% is added for renewals in the month of October, plus an additional 5% penalty for each month of delinquency thereafter.
Any person who engages in or manages any business, occupation, or profession without obtaining a local business tax receipt may be subject to a 25% penalty of the business tax receipt fee, including the business tax receipt due and any other penalty provided by law or in the City Code.
