Residents may contact the Broward County Call Center by dialing 311 or (954) 831-4000 for information on hurricane preparedness. The Call Center generally operates Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. However, if the Broward County Emergency Operations Center is activated, 311 becomes a 24/7 Hurricane Hotline.
Emergency Operations Center (EOC)
The City of Sunrise has a fully functional Emergency Operations Center, which is located in the new Public Safety Building. The City has a Sunrise Emergency Management Group, which is made up of designated personnel representing all major departments throughout the City to deliver the services during activation.
The objective of the Sunrise Emergency Management Group is to protect lives, preserve the environment, and prevent the negative impact of disasters to our residents and City. We will do it by managing efficiently any and all available resources while delivering carefully planned recovery strategies thru effective response processes and practices.
Business Disaster Planning Program
The Sunrise Business Disaster Planning Program is designed to help businesses build an emergency management plan customized for their business type and size. The program will cover continuity planning topics on how to minimize property damage, mitigate disruption of commerce, achieve timely return to normal operations and protect essential facilities, equipment and assets.
The program is free to all businesses within the City of Sunrise. For more information about the program and class offerings, e-mail Fire-Rescue@sunrisefl.gov.
Community Emergency Response Team (CERT)
The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations.
Using the training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT members can assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following an event when professional responders are not immediately available to help. CERT members also are encouraged to support emergency response agencies by taking a more active role in emergency preparedness projects in their community.
