Each month throughout the academic year, the City of Sunrise honors its top teachers. Recipients - all nominated by their schools - are recognized at City Commission meetings, and presented with certificates and Sawgrass Mills gift cards. Our most recent honoree is pictured below with Sunrise Mayor Michael J. Ryan.
Mr. Brandon Vargas, Piper High School
Brandon Vargas has worked at Piper High School for two years. He currently teaches Chemistry and
serves as the Science Department Chair.
Mr. Vargas has been a huge asset to Piper High since the day of his arrival. He wasted no time becoming one of the school's top science teachers and has played an integral role in the planning, monitoring and facilitating one of the many innovative programs at Piper High School - the City of Sunrise Utilities Curriculum. This program has provided students with the opportunity to learn specifically about the water utilities operations at the City of Sunrise. Mr. Vargas has used this opportunity to demonstrate relevant chemistry lab activities from the class field trips. He also has arranged for guest speakers to come into the classroom to apply real life scenarios to the classroom data that was collected.
Mr. Vargas’ innovation and enthusiasm has facilitated the development of the program to create internships for entry-level positions for Piper graduates. Piper High School is truly proud to have such an inspirational leader and educator on their team.
