Reports are generally processed within five working days, and may be picked up at the City's Public Safety Complex, located at 8330 N.W. 27 Place. Where can I get employment fingerprints taken? Fingerprinting is available only to City of Sunrise residents, and is provided free of charge. To have your fingerprints taken, please go to the Police substation at the Village Civic Center (6800 Sunset Strip) or the New River Civic Center (60 Weston Road) between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. These substations can be located using our City Facilities map. How can I claim property that was stolen from me and recovered by the Sunrise Police? First, it is important that you file a police report as soon as possible after the theft occurs. When your property is recovered, you will be contacted by the Evidence and Property Unit and asked to retrieve the item(s). You must come to the Police Department with photo identification and, if possible, proof of ownership. Property that is marked with an identifying number is easier to trace and return. The Police Explorer program is open to young men and women ages 14 to 20 who have completed the eighth grade, and are interested in learning about law enforcement. If you received a parking ticket, your options are listed on the back of the citation. If you received a traffic ticket, your options depend upon the type of infraction for which you were cited. Do I have any specific rights? Yes, you do! The Florida Legislature recognizes that many innocent persons suffer as a result of criminal acts. This may, in turn, result in hardships for the victim and/or their dependents. What is the difference between criminal profiling and bias-based profiling? Criminal profiling is a legitimate tool in the fight against crime. It is an investigative method in which an Officer, through observation of activities and environment, identifies suspicious behavior by individuals and develops a legal basis, consistent with the Fourth Amendment, to detain and question. Bias-based profiling refers to a decision by an Officer to stop, detain, interdict, or search an individual based on race, color, gender, ethnicity, religion, age, sexual orientation, or national origin. It is the policy of the Sunrise Police Department to prohibit bias-based profiling in all Police-initiated actions. These include all investigative detentions, field contacts, traffic contacts, arrests, searches, asset seizures and forfeiture efforts. An Officer's actions will be based on a standard of reasonable suspicion or probable cause as required by the Fourth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution and statutory authority. Officers must be able to articulate specific facts, circumstances and conclusions which support reasonable suspicion for an investigative detention or traffic stop, or probable cause for arrest. Officers shall not consider race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, age, gender identity or sexual orientation in establishing either reasonable suspicion, probable cause, or as a basis for requesting consent to search.
