Outstanding Citizenship Scholarships

The Outstanding Citizenship Scholarship Program was developed in 1999 to help deserving Sunrise public high school graduates reach their education goals. Eligible candidates must possess leadership ability, provide service to the community, and demonstrate financial need by meeting certain income requirements.

Each scholarship consists of a Florida Prepaid Tuition Contract purchased by the City through the Broward Education Foundation, which matches the City's expenditure. The tuition contracts purchased for Outstanding Citizenship Scholarship recipients provide funding for 60 credit hours of tuition at a two-year community college.

Since the program's inception, the City has awarded a total of 20 Outstanding Citizenship Scholarships. The 2009 winners are Ron Abraham and Jermaine Lewin, both from Nova High School.

Incoming seniors who are interested in applying for next year's Outstanding Citizenship Awards should consult their high school's BRACE (BRoward Advisors for Continuing Education) counselor for details.
