Storytellers returns to the Sunrise Civic Center Theatre for Episode 2 of its ongoing spoken word performance series, continuing to spotlight powerful voices and compelling storytelling. This installment once again transforms the theater into a space of vulnerability and strength—where stories are shared, silence holds meaning, and words inspire reflection and dialogue. This edition features compelling performances by acclaimed poets Bluz and Carlos Robson, whose commanding voices and evocative storytelling invite audiences into moments of vulnerability, reflection, and transformation. Joining them is local feature poet Lizz Straight, bringing a distinctly homegrown perspective to the evening’s rhythm and resonance. Once again, the night will be expertly guided by host and emcee Calvin “MadeSON” Early, ensuring a dynamic, intimate, and inspiring experience where stories unfold, silence speaks, and words spark change.
Bluz is a nationally respected and Emmy-winning spoken word artist and slam poet whose work is known for its emotional honesty, intellectual sharpness, and commanding stage presence. With years of experience performing on stages across the country, his poetry explores themes of identity, culture, resilience, and self-discovery, often blending lyrical precision with powerful narrative insight. His performances are celebrated for their ability to challenge audiences while creating moments of deep connection and reflection.
Former National Poetry Slam champion Carlos Robson is an acclaimed poet and storyteller recognized for his evocative language and fearless exploration of the human experience. His work draws from personal history, social observation, and emotional truth, weaving stories that balance vulnerability with strength. Through performances at festivals, universities, and cultural spaces nationwide, Robson has earned a reputation for poetry that resonates across generations and backgrounds, leaving a lasting emotional impact.
Local feature poet Lizz Straight represents the vibrant voice of the community, bringing authenticity and passion to the stage. Known for her bold delivery and thoughtful perspective, her work often reflects lived experience, personal growth, and the complexities of everyday life. As an emerging and respected presence in the local spoken word scene, Straight’s poetry adds a grounded and deeply relatable dimension to the evening.
Hosting and emceeing the night is Calvin “MadeSON” Early, a poet, organizer, and cultural advocate whose dedication to spoken word has helped cultivate meaningful creative spaces. Known for his dynamic energy and ability to connect audiences with artists, Early brings both professionalism and heart to the role. His presence ensures a seamless, engaging experience while honoring the power of every voice shared on stage, making Episode 2 not just a performance, but a collective moment of storytelling and impact.
