The City of Sunrise is proud to partner with the Colombian Foreign Ministry Office, housed within the Colombian Consulate in Miami, to present a special evening celebrating our vibrant and growing Latino community—now representing 35% of our city’s population. We are pleased to welcome residents to the Sunrise Civic Center Theatre for an impactful environmental film screening. Tickets for this presentation are free of charge and offered as general admission seating.
This screening is part of the broader “Casa de Colombia in Miami” initiative, a nationally recognized cultural program running from August through December across South Florida. To date, the initiative has engaged 2,404 members of the Colombian community, with a projected total reach of more than 8,000 participants. The evening will feature the screening of two thought-provoking, environmentally focused documentary films:
Salobre (7 min), directed by Felipe Orjuela Bustillo, is a captivating short documentary that highlights the delicate beauty and ecological importance of La Ciénaga Grande, one of Colombia’s most vital coastal wetlands. Through striking imagery and thoughtful storytelling, the film explores the intricate connection between the estuary’s natural rhythms and the communities that depend on it. Both poetic and urgent, Salobre offers audiences a powerful glimpse into a fragile ecosystem facing the pressures of environmental change—inviting viewers to reflect on the responsibility we share in protecting the world’s most precious habitats.
El Sendero de la Anaconda (The Path of the Anaconda, 74 min), directed by acclaimed filmmaker Alessandro Angulo, is a visually stunning and deeply immersive documentary that journeys into one of the world’s most vital ecosystems—the Colombian Amazon. Following the footsteps of explorers, scientists, and Indigenous communities, the film traces an ancestral route along the Apaporis River, revealing a landscape where culture, biodiversity, and spirituality are inseparable. As it uncovers stories of environmental stewardship and the enduring relationship between people and the land, El Sendero de la Anaconda invites audiences to reflect on the fragile balance of the natural world and the urgent need to protect it. Both films will be presented with English subtitles for non-Spanish speaking attendees.
