Assistant Deputy Mayor Latoya S. Clarke is originally from Jamaica, West Indies. She immigrated to the United States at the age of 14 and was raised in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Assistant Deputy Mayor Clarke is a proud graduate of Piper High School in Sunrise. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Florida Atlantic University and completed a Master of Science degree at the Nova Southeastern University Shepard Broad College of Law.
Assistant Deputy Mayor Clarke has over two decades of experience in the healthcare industry and has developed a strong expertise in business operations, crafting innovative strategies to optimize costs and improve service quality. Her career has included oversight of multiple hospital centers, allowing her to demonstrate effective leadership and operational management.
Since 2009, she has been an active and dedicated member of the City of Sunrise community. Her commitment to service began with volunteering for the East Sunrise Residents Association (ESRA), where she assumed the role of president in 2019. Under her leadership, the organization has actively participated in numerous community initiatives, including the City’s July 4th Parade, Tunes ‘N Trucks concert series, Adopt-a-Street Program, National Night Out, and Community Resource Fair. Additionally, she has served as a member of the Sunrise Board of Adjustment and previously graduated from civic programs such as the Sunrise Residents Academy, Community Police Academy, and Sunrise Small Business Academy, further deepening her engagement in community building.
Assistant Deputy Mayor Clarke was most recently appointed to the Broward County Community Action Agency (CAA) Advisory Board, which advises the Board of County Commissioners on initiatives aimed at alleviating poverty and enhancing the well-being of low-income residents. The Assistant Deputy Mayor is also part of the Florida Black Caucus of Local Elected Officials (FBC-LEO) and the Women in Municipal Government (WIMG) constituency group with the National League of Cities. She is involved in local organizations, including the International Pentecostal City Mission Church and City Mission Family Outreach, Inc. In 2015, Assistant Deputy Mayor Clarke founded Simply Living Management, a company dedicated to supporting the community through services like budgeting, real estate transactions, estate planning, and property management.
As the newly elected Assistant Deputy Mayor for Seat A in Sunrise, she is honored to bring her professional expertise, leadership experience, and passion for community service to this role. She will remain committed to fostering growth, unity, and opportunity for all residents of Sunrise.
Assistant Deputy Mayor Clarke is happily married and cherishes time spent with my family and friends, whose support continues to inspire her in her journey of public service.
