The City's 2026 celebration of the legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr. will feature FREE events on Saturday, January 17th and Sunday, January 18th:

"Write Your Dream: A Poetry Workshop for Teens"
Saturday, January 17th - 10:00 am to 1:00 pm
Sunrise Civic Center Art Gallery, 10610 West Oakland Park Boulevard

This writing workshop for students age 13 to 18 will be facilitated by teaching artists from the Omari Hardwick bluapple Poetry Network. Lyrical Lounge Teen Open Mic - Special MLK Edition

Celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at a very special Saturday edition of the City of Sunrise’s Lyrical Lounge monthly teen open mc on January 17. This inspiring afternoon invites teens to take the stage and share their voices through spoken word, poetry, rap, and music in a welcoming, supportive space. Honoring Dr. King’s vision of unity, justice, and expression, this event provides a platform for young artists to uplift, empower, and connect with their community.
