Home MenuAdvanced Metering Infrastructure Initiative
To enhance the reliability of our water and gas services and modernize the infrastructure, the City of Sunrise Utilities has been preparing to upgrade or replace approximately 45,000 water meters and over 9,600 gas meters that connect our customers’ homes and businesses to the water and gas systems. In the Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) project service area, water meters connected to Sunrise Utilities will be upgraded with a new AMI Smart Meter. Gas meters connected to Sunrise Utilities will receive an upgraded transmitter. Once complete, the meters will enable the City to implement an AMI system, which will provide more reliable and accurate service to measure customers’ water and gas usage—and help our Utilities Department to better assess, meet the community’s needs and modernize the infrastructure. The new meters are also environmentally friendly as we will no longer have meter readers driving their cars throughout the service area to read meters.
We anticipate beginning the deployment of AMI in our service area in 2025 and complete the process by 2027. The City’s contractor for this initiative is Core & Main. They will be working with team members from Envocore to complete the meter upgrades and replacements. Technicians will be easily identifiable by their Envocore branded shirts and will wear picture ID for easy identification. They will adhere to all safety protocols and will respect your privacy during the survey and installation process. We kindly request your cooperation in granting access to your utility meters. This will ensure the collection of accurate data, followed by the proper installation of new meters—enabling the City of Sunrise to better serve you. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work through these changes that will better serve our community.
