Administrative User Department
Signature Sunrise rentals include access to:
- Up to 34 oval tables (72-inch) and 360 chairs
- A shared prep kitchen with warming cabinets, ice machine, walk-in refrigerator, and freezer
Additional access is available to:- Ceremony rehearsals can be reserved from Monday through Thursday in one hour increments within 30 days of your event, based on availability.
- The Sunrise Amphitheater green room can be added to a rental for a dressing room or related event purposes for $300 based on availability.
- Public grounds surrounding Signature Sunrise, including the Sunrise Amphitheater, are available for use. Availability or exclusivity are not guaranteed.
Please note that rental agreements are not able to include:- Audiovisual equipment such as microphones or speakers
- Access to storage before or after the event rental period. We ask that our guests plan their rental timing carefully to include setup and load out. 50% of the event deposit is retained for rentals that are not complete by the contracted end time, and 100% of the deposit is retained for rentals that are not complete one hour following the contracted end time.
Signature Sunrise offers renters the flexibility to select their own caterer. You may use any vendor from our pre-approved list of options who already meet our insurance requirements or submit your preferred caterer for approval to be added to that list.
While no on-site cooking is permitted, renters and their approved vendors have shared access to a preparation kitchen featuring warming cabinets, an ice machine, a walk-in refrigerator, and a freezer. Exclusive use of the kitchen requires the rental of all three ballrooms. Renters may bring their own alcohol provided they obtain an alcohol permit for $250.
Signature Sunrise offers three distinct ballrooms that may be rented separately or combined together for a total size of 5,429 square feet accomodating up to 360 guests. Capacities vary by room configuration:

Signature Sunrise is available for private or public rentals, including those that charge an entry fee. However, a pre-registration process is required to ensure that the renter maintains a guest RSVP list and remains within the maximum capacity limits listed above.
Signature Sunrise is available to rent from Sunday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. or Friday and Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 a.m. To check if your preferred date is available or to schedule a viewing appointment, please contact us at 954-747-4664 or signature@sunrisefl.gov.
Reservations can be made up to 18 months in advance by reserving a date with a refundable security deposit of $500 per ballroom. Please note that the facility is capable of hosting three events simultaneously within separated ballrooms.
Guests at Signature Sunrise events may utilize the free parking available in our nearby parking lot and garage.
While valet services are not provided, renters are welcome to contract with a private valet vendor subject to insurance verification and city pre-approval.

- To request specific documents, you may contact the Office of the City Clerk in person, by phone at 954.746.3333, by email at cityclerk@cityofsunrise.gov, or in writing by mail to 10770 W. Oakland Park Boulevard, Attn: Office of the City Clerk, Sunrise, FL 33351. All public records requests that are estimated to cost over $20.00 to produce will require a deposit for the entire estimated amount.
- While lobbyists in Sunrise must register with the City Clerk's office, there is no registration fee.
- To perform a lien search, download a Lien Inquiry Form, and then mail the completed form to the Office of the City Clerk along with a check for $100.00. Within three to five business days you will receive the following information: any special assessments placed on the property; payment amounts due to close public service accounts; and code enforcement citations and liens that may be on the property. Each address/account/folio requires a $100 fee payment. Lien searches are valid for up to 30 days.
- The next citywide election will be held on Tuesday, November 5, 2024. The seats for Mayor, Commissioner Seat A and Commissioner Seat B are up for reelection for a 4-year term.
City Manager
- Please allow 4-6 weeks for eligibility verification and satisfaction of program requirements. If you decide to opt for the physical gift card, this could extend the length of your wait due to variable shipping and processing times.

Community Development
- Sunrise residents are permitted to place no more than two yard sale signs on their own property. Signs that are taped or wired to trees or sign posts, or placed in the medians or roadsides are not allowed, and will be removed and disposed of by Community Enhancement and Code Compliance Officers. There is a City Officer for Community Enhancement and Code Compliance on duty every weekend.
- Yes, you may pull/obtain a permit as a owner/builder. Florida Statute Section 489.103 provides for an exemption to the requirement for construction work to be performed by a licensed contractor. As a homeowner/builder, you must supervise all of the work yourself, or hire licensed subcontractors only. You may not hire an unlicensed contractor to perform the work. When you apply for a homeowner/builder permit, you must execute an affidavit that affirms you are acting as your own contractor and must comply with all codes, ordinances, etc., as if you were a licensed contractor.
- Pursuant to Chapter 15 of the City of Sunrise Code, plant connection fees are calculated by using standard water consumption rates developed by the Broward County Health Department. The consumption rates are based upon the type of use that will be consuming the water (i.e. retail, restaurant, office...). Historical consumption rates can be provided, to be used in lieu of the standard consumption rates. Refer to our Historical Consumption Information for submittal requirements.
- Refer to Chapter 16, Article VI, of the Code of Ordinances Section 16-118 (Accessory Uses and Structures under Supplemental Regulations) of the City's Land Development Code to find standards for the placement of sheds, pools, screen enclosures, satellite-receiving amateur radio antennas, flags and other accessory structures.
- By law, building permits and the accompanying plans must be reviewed and approved by the applicable building disciplines, i.e., Structural, Electrical, Mechanical (air conditioning, etc.), Plumbing, and - for commercial and multi-story residential buildings - Fire. Simple permits, such as those required to install a fence or re-roof a house, generally take only two days, if the plans and permit application requirements are correct. Permits for single-family homes (construction, alterations or additions) may be approved within two to three weeks, again, if the plans and permit application requirements are correct, and do not need to be returned to the architect for correction. Delays are most often caused when plans are not promptly corrected and resubmitted for review. Therefore, it is incumbent upon the contractor, architect or engineer to submit completed or corrected plans in a timely manner.
- First and foremost, please contact the Building Division at 954-572-2354. Generally, there is no penalty to you. Rather, it is our goal to assist you with the correction process in order to assure that the work will be made safe and meet the requirements of the Florida Building Code. Most often, an architect or contractor can create an "as-built" drawing including any changes required to comply with the Code, and submit it for permitting - albeit after the fact. We will perform the necessary inspections and, upon completion, issue final approval. This is an important step that will establish a legal record and prevent any future sale of the home from being jeopardized due to non-permitted work.
- State law requires that each municipality or county enforce the requirements of the Florida Building Code when a structure is built, altered, added to, removed or otherwise changed. In addition, there are local zoning laws to govern the location, height, and - in some cases - the color of structures and assure adherence to community standards. The permitting process promotes safety and quality, helping to make sure your contractor is doing his or her best. The Building Division's technical staff reviews plans for proposed work and, by issuing approval, indicates that Florida Building Code requirements will be met. The department's field inspectors observe the work as it progresses to assure that the project is being done in accordance with the approved plans, and is safe and sound. Work conducted without permits cannot be inspected and certified, and may therefore be incorrect, incomplete and/or hazardous. Aesthetic, non-permanent improvements such as paint, wall and floor finishes, furnishings, etc. generally do not need building permits. If you are unsure if your project requires a permit, please contact the Building Division at (954) 572-2363 for guidance.
- First identify the location of the subject property by reviewing a survey, and then find it on the City Zoning Map, determine the zoning designation, and refer to the Yard Setbacks section of the identified zoning designation in the City's Land Development Code.
- C.O. is the abbreviation for Certificate of Occupancy, which is the legal document that permits the human occupancy of a building. All new construction, additions or building that changes occupancy classifications requires the issuance of a Certificate of Occupancy before the space is inhabited. The City's Building Official is the only person authorized by law to issue a Certificate of Occupancy. To obtain a C.O., the Contractor makes the request to the Building Official in writing.
- To determine the answer, first identify the location of the subject property by reviewing a survey, and then locate the property on a City Zoning Map. Once the zoning designation is determined, refer to Article V (District Regulations) of the Land Development Code for permitted uses.
- Find a vacant parcel of land and determine its zoning designation by checking the Zoning Map. If approved for that particular use, confirm that it has been platted for that particular use (density, unit type, etc.) in the public records of Broward County. Once units are confirmed vested or available, follow the City's Site Plan Application submittal procedure as explained in the Site Plan application.

- The maintenance of trees adjacent to private property is the responsibility of the property owner. Branches need to be cut 4 feet in length, 40 pound maximum and bundled in order to be picked up on bulk collection day.

Vendors can also attend our monthly Vendor Workshops on 'How to do Business with the City of Sunrise?'. The monthly workshops are held the 1st Friday of each month from 11:30am to 12:30pm at City Hall ' Commission Chambers at 10770 West Oakland Park Boulevard, Sunrise, FL 33351. If your company is awarded a bid/quote, a Purchase Order from the City of Sunrise may be issued to your company. For additional questions, you can also reach out to our purchasing team at purchasing@sunrisefl.gov. - Each communications services provider or pass-through provider that desires to erect, construct, install, maintain, repair, expand, or use any communications facilities in, under, over or across any public rights-of-way in the city shall first register with the city in accordance with the terms of Article VII of the Code of the City of Sunrise.

You can also visit 800 Help Florida or file a complaint with the FDACS. - Property tax notices are sent by the Broward County Property Appraiser and property tax payments are remitted to the Broward County Revenue Collector. If you have questions concerning the information on your property tax notice, our Budget Office staff is available to answer questions concerning this information, as it relates to the City of Sunrise. - The fire assessment fee is an annual fee collected for fire services for the City of Sunrise and is based on a rate schedule approved by the City Commission. Who should I report a defect in a sidewalk, obstruction at intersections and medians, or a pothole in the roadway?
Our Risk Management Division is available to investigate hazards and request corrective measures concerning City-owned property, right-of-ways and roadways deemed our responsibility to maintain or repair within our jurisdiction. Please give them a call at (954) 572-2496.
Fire-Rescue

Does Sunrise Fire-Rescue or Sunrise Police Department participate in donation telephone solicitations?
No, Sunrise Fire-Rescue does not participate in, or benefit from donation phone solicitations.- No, but you can find a list of vendors in an internet-browser search, or in the phone book under "Fire Extinguishers".

The fire hydrant in front of my house has started to leak. Does Sunrise Fire-Rescue take care of that?
Leaking or broken fire hydrants should be reported to the City of Sunrise Utility Department at (954) 888-6000. Also note that you cannot paint hydrants yourself. If too much paint is applied, firefighters may be unable to attach their equipment to it in an emergency.- For a full summary of severe weather preparation suggestions, review the tips from our emergency management division.
- Firefighter-paramedics at any fire station are able to check your blood pressure. Additionally, community blood pressure checks are regularly available the 2nd Friday of each month at 11:00 a.m. at the City of Sunrise Senior Center. Please note that the location is subject to change based on room availability at other locations on the City of Sunrise Municipal Campus.

- Generally, Fire-Rescue personnel will take you to the closest and most-appropriate emergency room able to handle your medical condition. Patients may be transported to a slightly more distant hospital, but that is done on a case-by-case basis, as warranted by an individual's medical condition.
Human Resources
- We recommend that you please contact the Human Resources Department for any additional information about job opportunities.
Do current City employees have to complete a new application when applying for a different position?
Yes. An application must be completed for each new position you wish to be considered for. This is the case for current employees and external applicants.- All persons interested in employment with the City of Sunrise must complete an online application through the City's online hiring system. Applications must be accompanied by proof of highest level of completed education. Resumes cannot be accepted in lieu of an official online application.
- You may check the status of your application by logging into the City of Sunrise Career Portal and clicking on the job title of the position you applied for. The status will indicate if your application is pending review, referred, or disqualified.
- The Human Resources Department is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The department can be reached at 954-838-4522 or HR@SunriseFL.gov. Our offices are located at 10770 W. Oakland Park Boulevard, Sunrise, FL 33351 on the 1st Floor of Sunrise City Hall.
- Following an interview, if you are selected for hire, you will be contacted by the designated hiring department to discuss next steps. A Human Resources representative will coordinate the pre-employment background vetting, conditional offer, completion of related forms and schedule a new hire orientation.
- The Human Resources Department receives a large volume of applications and conducts a highly competitive recruitment process. Not all candidates who meet the minimum requirements will be contacted or advanced to the final selection phase. There is no pre-set guaranteed time frame by which applicants are contacted. At the conclusion of each recruitment, an email notification is sent to applicants not selected for hire.
- If selected for an interview, you will be contacted directly by the designated hiring department to schedule. If you are not selected for an interview, an email notification will be sent when that recruitment is closed, advising that another candidate was selected for hire or that you were not advanced to the selection phase.
- If the posting states a degree or certification is required, then there will be no exceptions. In some cases, a job posting may specify that a degree is preferred, but not mandatory. In those cases, prior job experience may be an acceptable alternative for a degree.
Leisure Services
- The City of Sunrise has a full-time social worker who helps eligible residents of all ages obtain information about accessing federal, state and/or local assistance. Some of the primary areas of help provided include food pantry resources, transportation and health and wellness programs. The City of Sunrise offers many event rental options:
- The Sunrise Civic Center's Grand Ballroom accommodates up to 300 guests for anything from family events to business luncheons to galas. This venue can include optional usage of the caterer's liquor license, the surrounding outdoor space, amphitheater, or hired valet services. To inquire, please call Leisure Services at (954) 747-4600.
- We also have indoor event facilities for up to 150 people in various civic buildings and city parks, which vary in capacities, amenities, rental costs, and operating hours.
- Additionally, the City offers picnic pavilions which can be rented for up to 80 people in a covered, open-air space. These rentals can be self-catered or use ARC Culinary. Rental costs include a refundable security deposit. For any questions or to reserve these other facilities, please call Leisure Services at (954) 747-4600.

- In addition to the Broward County public transportation systems, Sunrise offers mini-bus service on dedicated routes throughout the City. Medical transportation is also available to eligible residents. Rider fees for these services have been suspended until further notice by action of the Sunrise City Commission, making the services free for eligible residents. Police
- No. The City of Sunrise does not require alarm registration.
Does Sunrise Fire-Rescue or Sunrise Police Department participate in donation telephone solicitations?

You must come to the Police Department with photo identification and, if possible, proof of ownership. Property that is marked with an identifying number is easier to trace and return. Is there a reason the Community Enhancement and Code Compliance Division can't resolve complaints immediately?
Yes: The answer is due process of law. All Community Enhancement and Code Compliance offices throughout the state must abide by the rules and processes prescribed in Florida Statute 162. This statute provides for due process of notification, reasonable time to comply, a hearing process, and penalties for non-compliance.
The City of Sunrise utilizes a Special Magistrate who hears cases on a monthly basis and has the power to assess fines for non-compliance. Criminal profiling is a legitimate tool in the fight against crime. It is an investigative method in which an Officer, through observation of activities and environment, identifies suspicious behavior by individuals and develops a legal basis, consistent with the Fourth Amendment, to detain and question.
Biased policing refers to a decision by an Officer to stop, detain, interdict, or search an individual based on race, ethnic background, national origin, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, socioeconomic status, age, disability, political status or income. It is the policy of the Sunrise Police Department to prohibit biased policing in all Police-initiated actions. These include all investigative detentions, field contacts, traffic contacts, arrests, searches, asset seizures and forfeiture efforts. An Officer’s actions will be based on a standard of reasonable suspicion or probable cause as required by the Fourth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution and statutory authority. Officers must be able to articulate specific facts, circumstances and conclusions which support reasonable suspicion for an investigative detention or traffic stop, or probable cause for arrest. Officers shall not consider race, ethnic background, national origin, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, socioeconomic status, age, disability, political status or income in establishing reasonable suspicion, probable cause, or as a basis for requesting consent to search.

- A request to close out a utility account must be initiated in writing or in person at any of our three Public Service / Utility Billing locations. - The City reads water and gas meters each month and issues bills based on the usage since the prior month's reading(s). Usage is calculated simply as the current month's meter reading minus the prior month's reading. Water, sewer and gas bills include a flat base charge plus a commodity charge for the consumption or usage. Wastewater commodity charges are based on metered water usage. - The City holds deposits for as long as the utility account is open. When the account is closed, the deposit and accrued interest are applied to any outstanding account balance. If a credit balance remains after all charges have been paid, a refund check will be mailed to you.

- Residential bulk trash pick-ups are conducted weekly. Residents in single-family homes are serviced on their first scheduled collection day of the week. Multi-family communities with designated bulk collection areas East of Pine Island Road are scheduled for collection every Thursday and West of Pine Island Road every Friday. - No. Only an authorized City of Sunrise employee or representative is permitted to restore water or gas service. It can be very dangerous to attempt to reconnect service yourself, and you may be subject to civil or criminal penalties by doing so.
- The stormwater fee on your bill helps offset costs related to maintaining drainage systems throughout the City. These systems include roadways, drainage culverts, pumping stations and canals.Wastewater is the term used for sanitary sewer service. It refers to water that has been used and is being returned to the City for treatment.

Also, avoid unnecessary service charges by ensuring your utility bills are paid on time each month.

It is possible that water or gas service could be temporarily interrupted while the City makes repairs to the system. If the reason for the interruption is non-payment, City staff will explain what you need to do to restore service; generally, you will be required to pay the past due balance, plus service restoration charges, in cash or money order.
- The City of Sunrise issues utility bills monthly to every utility customer. Payments are due twenty-one (21) days from the date of issuance.
- The City of Sunrise and the City of Plantation have partnered to provide residents with eight drop-off events to safely dispose of household hazardous waste (HHW) and electronics. Further, there are twelve additional monthly opportunities at Wheelabrator South in Davie open to Sunrise residents. For a list of dates and times, please refer to the City's Bulk Trash resources. - Although some customers have water meters located on the side or rear of their homes, particularly if they have a corner lot, most water meters are in front of the home either in the driveway or the swale area between two neighboring properties. Water meters are usually installed underground in meter boxes with concrete, plastic or metal covers. Gas meters are installed above ground and are generally located along the side or rear exterior wall of the home. Unlike utility companies in colder areas of the country, Sunrise does not have any meters installed inside homes, garages or basements.

- Sunrise has contracted with an outside company, Bermex Inc., to read City water and gas meters each month. Although the meter readers do not wear City uniforms or drive City vehicles, they should always wear a shirt that identifies them as a meter reader working for Bermex. They should also always wear, in a visible location, a photo identification card that provides both the company name and the meter reader's name.
- Yes. If you do not pay your bill before the City issues the next monthly bill, the next statement will include a notice advising you of the delinquency and providing a date by which payment must be received in order to prevent interruption of water, gas or garbage collection services. A bill that is not paid within twenty-eight days of the date it was rendered shall incur a ten ($10.00) dollar late fee which becomes part of the unpaid balance. If a bill is not paid forty-five (45) days from the date of issuance, it becomes subject to disconnection for non-payment and a corresponding disconnection/reconnection charge of $50.00 and $70.00 for those accounts disconnected two or more times within a six month period. Please make sure to allow for adequate delivery time if you are mailing a payment.
Public Works

- In accordance with Section 18-1 of the City of Sunrise Code of Ordinances, maintenance and repair of public sidewalks is the responsibility of the abutting property owner. - The Stormwater and Grounds Section of the Public Works Division is responsible for inspecting and maintaining water levels in City owned and maintained canals. - The Public Works Division of the Utilities Department is responsible for picking up and disposing of dead animals from City's roadways or swales. If the dead animal is on private property, it is the property owner's responsibility to pick up and dispose of the animal properly.
- The majority of the City's street lights are owned and maintained by FPL. To report a street light that is out, call FPL Customer Service (954) 797-5000 or visit FPL online. It may take 14-21 days for FPL to repair a reported street light. Or contact the Public Works Division at (954) 572-2388 and provide the information on the location.
- The Broward County Traffic Engineering (BCTE) Division is responsible for the maintenance of City's street signs. To report a missing or damaged street sign, contact the Public Works Division at (954) 572-2388 and the City will report it to BCTE Division. Private street signs are the responsibility of the property owner.
Utilities
- Drip, bubble, and micro-jet systems and watering cans that apply water directly to root plant zones may be used any time. Water collected in cisterns and rain barrels may also be used for irrigation any time. Low-volume irrigation should not produce water runoff. Voluntary reductions in use are encouraged.
- No, there are no restrictions on vehicle washing. Always attach automatic shutoff nozzles to hoses and, if possible, channel runoff water to a grassy area or porous surface. As an alternative to issuing credits for wastewater charges incurred due to filling a pool or irrigation, Sunrise has established a 'cap,' or maximum amount, that it will bill residential customers for wastewater usage. Wastewater used above the capped amount will not be billed. Please contact Public Service at (954) 746-3232 for more information.
Sunrise Gas connects residential gas appliances including cooking appliances and clothes dryers to existing gas lines, however we do not repair gas appliances or install new gas pipelines. You should contact a qualified contractor for gas piping installations. While the City of Sunrise does not sell gas appliances such as water heaters, Sunrise Gas may be able to offer rebates on select gas appliances. - Yes. The Free Recycled Paint Program provides owners of single-family homes in Sunrise with an opportunity to apply for up to two 5-gallon containers of a base color and two 1-gallon containers of a trim color for use on the exterior of their home. Applicant must complete a Recycled Paint Request Form, which can be requested in person at any City of Sunrise utility payment location or via email at paint@sunrisefl.gov.

- If you are planning to dig on your property for any reason or install a patio, pool, fence, or shed you must call two business days in advance of any work for all underground utilities to be located. This is a free service. Simply call 8-1-1 to CALL SUNSHINE. Each of the local utilities will send someone to your location within 2 business days to mark out the location of their respective underground utilities. There is no charge for this service.

- There are just too many cost variables to confirm which is cheaper. A typical residential family that uses natural gas for water heating, cooking, and the clothes dryer should save annually over the cost of using electricity for the same appliances. However, savings will vary based on the amount of energy you currently use for these purposes and the current cost of fuels charged by the electric and gas utility. For most households, using natural gas is no more expensive and provides many additional quality of life benefits. Residents can also learn more about the City of Sunrise gas program.
- Sunrise Gas System's gas mains serve most of the City of Sunrise, as well as parts of Lauderhill, Tamarac, and Weston. Whether or not natural gas service can be installed without cost depends on the proximity of an existing gas main. Do not turn on or off any electrical switches or move any vehicles. A faint odor of gas may mean a small leak exists or a pilot light is out. - Pressure washing and vehicle washing are not restricted. Use low-volume equipment that produces water pressure of 1,000 pounds per square inch to 4,000 pounds per square inch. Channel runoff water onto the grass or another non-paved surface, and always attach an automatic shut-off nozzle to your hose. Limit boat rinsing to 15 minutes after it has been in salt water.
