The Citizen Volunteer Corps program is designed to inspire community engagement by encouraging residents to get involved in the nuts and bolts of local government through volunteering their time and talents in various city departments. This program seeks to create an innovative partnership between the City and the citizens we serve, by providing volunteers the opportunity to directly impact programs and services that our residents count on every day.

Who joins the corps? A diverse range of dedicated people who may be:            They've discovered that volunteering is a great way to:

Volunteers do not need to live within the City of Sunrise, but must be at least 15 years old. Click link   Participants may be subject to background checks depending on where they will be placed. Once selected, participants can enroll for free in the national President’s Volunteer Service Awards program. Citizen Volunteer Corps members are eligible to earn special recognition and awards from the City for their creditable volunteer service hours. If you do not see a volunteer position that interests you or matches your knowledge, skills and abilities, fill it out anyway and tell us where and how you feel you can best be of service in the City. We will work with you and our departments to find the right volunteer opportunity for you!


Haitian Creole/Kreyol Language Translator

Translating documents from English to Haitian Creole/Kreyol for public distribution. Must be able to read and write in both languages.     

City Hall  Project-Based Flexible Hours

City Clerk Archive Project

Sorting & cataloguing City archive material and preparing it for storage. A background in handling historical material or library archiving is preferred. The estimated duration of this project is six months.

City Clerk, City Hall Mon-Fri flexible hours

Community Development Support

Sorting & boxing paper records for scanning, assisting with public records requests & answering phones. Must have good customer service skills. Must be organized and accurate.

Community Development/Building, City Hall Annex     Mon-Fri anytime between 8:30 am - 4:30 pm

Leisure Services Support

Filing, collating flyers, entering information into database, answering phones. Must be familiar with computers, scanners, MS Word & Excel. 

Leisure Services, Civic Center Mon-Fri anytime between 9am - 4pm

Leisure Services Programs Instructors

Need volunteers to teach youth and/or senior programs. Must have good customer service skills, be flexible & work well with people.

Leisure Services Special Events

Setting up, assisting with game booths, arts & crafts, greeting the community, handing out material, picking up trash, and clean up.

Leisure Services Event Schedule Varies

Leisure Services Theater Ushers

Greeting patrons & answering questions during events. Must have good customer service skills, be flexible & work well with people.

Leisure Services, Civic Center Theater Days/Hours Vary
Public Service/Finance Research

Research Broward County Tax Rolls via the internet, update property lien calculations on MS Excel. Must be familiar with computers, MS Excel & internet search techniques.  

Public Service/Finance Mon-Fri between 9am - 5pm (schedule flexible)

Public Service/Finance Support

Sorting & filing documents. Must have excellent skills in alphabetical and numerical filing.  

Public Service/Finance, City Hall  Mon-Fri between 9am - 5pm (half days if possible)
