Date: 9/26/2015 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM
Cost: Free
Location: See below for parking information
Sunrise, Florida

Sunrise is celebrating the grand opening of two new neighborhood passive parks, Oak Hammock Park and Cypress Preserve Park. Join us for a first look at these unique and eco-friendly facilities. The event will feature a ribbon-cutting ceremony (10:15 a.m.), light refreshments and giveaways. And, since the openings correspond with Nickelodeon’s Worldwide Day of Play – an afternoon to switch off the television and go outside – Dora the Explorer will be available for photo opportunities.

Oak Hammock Park
9220 NW 44th Street, Sunrise
Amenities include a playground, a chess patio, three pavilions, a walking/biking path, a boardwalk surrounding
a bird habitat, and restroom facilities.

Cypress Preserve Park
9020 NW 38th Street, Sunrise
Amenities include an interactive water feature, a nine-hole disc golf course, three pavilions, a walking/biking path with fitness stations, and restroom facilities.

Each park has been designed with sustainability and energy conservation in mind, and utilizes solar lighting and recyclable/recycled materials to the greatest extent possible. The parks also preserve existing wetland areas and enhance existing vegetation with native landscaping.

Due to event staging, all public parking will be located off site. Please bike or walk if possible! If you’re driving, take our free shuttle at one of three Grand Opening park-and-ride lots:

  • Pine Plaza shopping center at the southwest corner of NW 44th Street and N. Pine Island Road (designated area ONLY)
  • Open field at the northeast corner of Hiatus Road and NW 44th Street
  • Gravel lot just west of Welleby Park (11100 NW 44th Street)

Please see our event flyer for a map of park and parking locations. For more information, call the City of Sunrise Leisure Services Department: (954) 747-4600.
